Prediction Of Antimikroba Minimal Inhibitory Concentration

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Introduction: Infectious disease is a primary cause of mortality in Indonesian and also worldwide. At Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya, the infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus showed increasing the prevalence of resistant against ampicillin and gentamisin. Currently, in clinical practice, the dosage of antimicrobial therapy adjusted based on M1C ( Minimal Inhibitory concentration ) according to pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles.

Objectives : To find the correlation between MIC and inhibitory zone diameter of ampicillin or gentamicin respectively to two Gram positif cocci bacteria namely Staphylococcus aureus or Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus. Method : Staphylococcus aureus and Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus species were obtained from Clinical Microbiology Laboratory of Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya. Each isolal was examined using 2 methods, namely dilution and disk diffusion according to the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standard (NCCLS). The data were analyzed for linier correlation regression between inhibitory zone diameter and MIC ( p< 0,05).
